Camp Arcadia - Beach Erosion Committee

This Page is a summary of the six different technologies that are being evaluated by the Beach Erosion Committee of the Lutheran Camp Association.

Technologies evaluated are:

1. Seawalls
2. Revetment
3. Jetties
4. Wave Absorbers
5. Beach Nourishment
6. Undercurrent Stabilizers

The evaluation of these five technologies will be based on the following criteria:

1. Protection of buildings and grounds includes camp buildings, tennis courts, sidewalks

2. Protection of natural beach for recreation (includes safety to users, ability to use beach for swimming and boating, and existence of natural sand area for sunbathing and recreation)

3. Capital Cost & Operation/Maintenance Costs this will have to include an estimate of the lifespan of the method, how frequently will it will be replaced or maintained.  Can it be replaced or maintained?

4. Regulatory Approval how easy is the technology permitted?

5. Protection of neighbors – how are neighbors affected by this technology?
